The Origins of The Little Pencil REVEALED! - The Little Pencil #2 Available Now

The Little Pencil #2 is here! Learn about the characters that appear in the second issue.

The Fruit Pencils? Captain Stars? Who are these people?

A brand new issue of The Little Pencil is available right now on GlobalComix and this very website! In this issue, The Ruler reveals the history behind the name “The Little Pencil”, as well as the history of the Government Agency “R.E.T.E.N.”. Meanwhile, Amy and Rose are on Earth searching for Ricky Haroldson.

But who are these characters? What do we need to know? Well luckily, we’ve got the details for you! Let’s go through the characters that appear!

The Little Pencil

I mean, we all know who he is, right? If you’re new to The Little Pencil though, let’s go through his history so far. Ricky Haroldosn first appeared in A Pencilly Halloween back on October 31st, 2022 where he was confronted by The PumpKing before being saved by The Ruler. It’s then revealed in The Little Pencil #1 that a day later, Ricky Haroldson’s brother, Frank went missing, and Dr. Steve Brown and Ricky went looking for him. They arrived at his lab, but he got into an accident turning him into The Little Pencil.

Now as The Little Pencil, The Ruler brings him to the Paper Planet. Find out what happens next in The Little Pencil #2!

The Fantastic Crayon

The Fantastic Crayon is The Little Pencil’s newest friend. We learn in the children’s book “The Little Pencil” that he was drawn by The Little Pencil, and helped him in his first war against the Erasers!

The Ruler

The Ruler first appeared in A Pencilly Halloween confronting Ricky Haroldson about becoming The Little Pencil. The Ruler knew that Ricky would become The Little Pencil, and just waited until it happened. The next day, he brought The Little Pencil to the Paper Planet. The Ruler’s also been behind the scenes throughout the years of the Fruit Comics Ultimate Universe… which you’ll learn about in these other character descriptions.

Captain Stars

Terry Thunder, the Co-Founder of R.E.T.E.N. is known as Captain Stars. Captain Stars has the abilities of the Gods, and at a young age got the abilities from an ancient Wizard. Captain Stars is the strongest member of The Fruit Pencils, and has helped save the World on multiple occasions.

Epic Pear

Epic Pear comes from the history of the African country known as Narfolk, and met the Red Comet and The Goblin King when they landed in 23 AD. Epic Pear became known within the country of Narfolk and was King Pears right hand man. Epic Pear later became a member of The Fruit Pencils.

The Little Pencil

Jason, otherwise known as The Little Pencil is the other Co-Founder of The Fruit Pencils. Jason is one of the few Pencil Objecticals in the world, with The Ruler checking in on him as much as he can. Jason and The Ruler work together in order to stop all threats relating to the Paper Planet.

The Beetle

From a member of the Fort Coehor Police Department to taking up the mantle of The Beetle from his father, Theodore Kent joined The Fruit Pencils under the Superhero name "The Beetle". The Beetle occasionally went over to Fieldham, in order to fight crime with The Fruit Pencils.

The Walking Fish

The Walking Fish was a secret weapon during World War 2. Coming from Atlantis, The Walking Fish was apart of a Black Ops team created in order to fight against the Nazis alongside other superbeings. The Walking Fish would later be hired by R.E.T.E.N., and would join The Fruit Pencils.

Today There’s a Blog Post Tonight!

What’s next for Paper and Games?

Who’s ready for news?

In the absence of Today There’s News Tonight (which returns of course in March…), we have some news to share about some of our upcoming projects! Firstly, we should talk about the thing we have coming out in just over 7 hours…

Deconstructing The Loop

Episode 1 of our new Audio Drama is out in just over 7 hours. Are you hyped?

Full Story Productions’ Deconstructing The Loop is set in a world where everything's been stuck in a loop, Greg Stevenson discovers that there might be more to life than boarding a train, going to school, returning home, and eating dinner and maybe there's been a secret the government has been hiding this entire time. Maybe "Loop City" isn't as joyful as we hoped.

The first episode is titled “Never Ending Story” and follows this simple premise: Greg Stevenson is a normal teenager who's fallen on some hard times. Recently becoming lonely, Greg walks around and talks to himself as he gets into worse and worse situations before realising that the next day will just be the same as before.

It will be available on YouTube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Amazon Podcasts, iHeartRadio and more!

The Journey (Beta Version 1.4)

Pencilified Studios’ The Journey is getting a brand new update this month, and we can’t wait for you to check it out!

Releasing on February 12th, the first two worlds + the first two levels of the Driving Mania x The Journey Mappack will be available, along with several new textures added throughout the game!

We also had to announce a few days ago both the delay of Bounce Up! and The Journey, but that’s for good reason. We want The Journey to be as good as possible. But we did announce that Fruit Comics will be making a Bounce Up! Prequel Comic, so you guys better check that out later this year. The Journey Version 1.5 will be releasing in March, with Version 1.6 in April.

The Little Pencil

Our first full comic series, The Little Pencil is out right now! Well, issue one anyway…

The Little Pencil stars Ricky Haroldson as he goes through one of the most dramatic Halloweens of his lifetime before eventually becoming an Unnatural Objectical known as The Little Pencil. He is then mentored by The Ruler, and begins to live on the Paper Planet.

A new issue releases every month right here, or on GlobalComix! The first 3 issues will be completely for free! So you better check it out!

Coming Soon:

February 7th: Pears vs Apples Prologue #2

February 11th: The Little Pencil #2

February 12th: The Journey v1.4

February 14th: Pears vs Apples Prologue #3

Fruit Comics Weekly every Monday!

We can’t wait for you to check everything out! Now let’s deconstruct the loop!

Where Did “The Journey” Come From?

The Development of The Journey came from quite an interesting place… so we decided to tell you the full story!

The Journey came from a School Project?

Pencilified Studios is getting ready for the launch of their upcoming 2D Platformer titled “The Journey”, but it’s been in development for much longer than some people may believe. The Journey actually started development all the way back in 2019… and it’s quite the tale.

The screenshot above is from the very first level designed for The Journey, with the games original art style. Back in 2019, our CEO, Charlie was given the assignment in a class to create a 2D Platformer game, so that’s exactly what he did. But he didn’t want this 2D Platformer game to be like any other game, he wanted the game to have something unique.

Although Charlie is a huge fan of the “Super Mario” series by Nintendo, The Journey actually took a lot of its inspiration from the Indie Game series titled “You Have 10 Seconds”. Within You Have 10 Seconds, there’s a specific type of object that the player can interact with, which slows down the player. This object is glue, which is a pale colour. Charlie wanted to recreate this feeling within his game, but after coding it into the game… it just didn’t work properly!

Charlie wanted the player to be able to get unstuck from the glue with the press of a button, but once that was implemented, the character began bouncing using the momentum of the previous jump. At first, Charlie tried to figure out what the problem was, and really tried to fix the problem, but he just could not work out what the main problem was.

So instead of fixing it, he decided to play into the bug, and make it a feature.

This wasn’t the first time he had done this, as in an earlier game he made, one that never released titled “Just Keep Moving!”, the main goal of the game was to complete several maze levels (which you see as the final level of the original version of The Journey and in the upcoming OG Mappack), but Charlie accidentally implemented a glitch where the player would not stop moving after pressing the first button, but he really enjoyed the way it worked, so he made that the entire feature behind the game. Instead of having to complete a maze the normal way, you also had to pay attention to what part of the game you were up to. This made it a bit of a challenge.

The other time Charlie used a glitch to his advantage was in the very first game by Pencilified Studios, Driving Mania. Within Driving Mania, Charlie didn’t make a barrier around the play area, so you could drive off the edge of the map and fall into the endless skybox.

An earlier version of Driving Mania

So instead of letting the player fall into the endless void, Charlie implemented a secret area below the map, one that took up the resemblance of the unreleased Pencilified Studios game, Turtle Simulator, along with The Moon. The Moon was used as inspiration for the eventual addition of the Solar System within the main game during the Final Update.

But now, back to The Journey. This glitch that Charlie had accidentally made became a major feature in the game. Several parts of some levels ended up needing you to use your momentum. Sometimes, you’d need to do a regular jump, but sometimes you’d need to bounce, but watch out! For bouncing, you need to build up momentum! This was helpful because bouncing also made it so you couldn’t die to the spikes, so Charlie used it to his advantage, and that’s noticeable in the upcoming worlds that will appear within the next version of The Journey.

The Journey also went through a complete art-style remake once the game became bigger than a school project, as the sprites made for the original game were only supposed to be temporary anyway. Below you can see some screenshots from the original version of the game.

You may know if you’re a current owner of The Journey that we haven’t redone the texture of sand yet… but it’s coming!

Well that’s a complete and comprehensive look at the early parts of The Journey’s development. And in case you’re wondering, Charlie got an A+ for this assignment.

Next week we’ll be looking at the story behind The Little Pencil! Who else is excited? We are! Thanks for coming back to the Paper and Games Blog. See you next week!

The Creation of A Pencilly Halloween

The Creation of A Pencilly Halloween is pretty interesting…

Get ready for an interesting one!

The Fruit Comics Ultimate Universe all began with a promise, to create a thriving Fruit Comics Universe set in the present day with heaps of differing ideas and characters. But one project had to start it all off, and we knew just who to make the star of that project, and that guy had to be The Little Pencil. But we knew that we also wanted to actually show The Little Pencil’s Origin Story (which you will see in The Little Pencil #1, releasing on January 14th!), so we needed him to still be a human, which led to the main stars of this quick little special being Ricky and Rose.

One of the first things we did was come up with Concept Art for each of the characters that appeared within the special. Below you can see them. We also came up with the concept art on how they would translate into their Objectical selves. We may have changed a few things…

Ricky / The Little Pencil

Rose

Olivia

The PumpKing

We actually never came up with concept art for Frank… which is totally weird because I had assumed we did. I think we may have actually done it on paper when designing The Little Pencil 2: The Erasers Return… but that’s a story for another day.

Now for A Pencilly Halloween, we also had to storyboard some of the sequences for one of the animators on the project, specifically a lot of the camera movement sequences… and let’s just say they are pretty ugly to look at all things considered. But hey, maybe you’ll find them interesting!

There’s a few more storyboards we made… but you get the gist of it from this. If A Pencilly Halloween looked like this… I don’t think it would’ve been all that interesting, would it?

Well that’s the creation of A Pencilly Halloween! I hope you found it interesting to revisit A Pencilly Halloween just like I did. Well next week, we’re looking at The History of The Journey by Pencilified Studios. I hope you’re excited!

The Journey, Bounce Up! and MORE! - Paper and Games Fest 2024 (Pencilified Studios)

The Pencilified Studios Panel from Paper and Games Fest 2024 had so many exciting announcements! Check out the full recap here!

Woah.

Let’s just start with that.

The Pencilified Studios Panel happened today, and a whole lot of announcements were revealed, and there really were some surprises, along with some mysteries? You’ll understand once you see it.

The Journey - Version 1.4

The very first announcement was that The Journey Version 1.4 would be released in the first 3 months of 2025! In this new update, the first half of the full game will be available, alongside the Classic Mappack. The Classic Mappack will be your way of entering the older levels from the previous versions! It was also announced that The Journey will get a price increase once version 1.4 comes out, but if you buy the game right now, you will be able to keep the game forever, and keep updating the game!

Right now, the game is $1 on itch.io and Gamejolt right now, and will be available right here on this very website starting tomorrow at 7AM AEDT.

Driving Mania x The Journey Mappack

The second announcement was that the previously announced Driving Mania x The Journey Mappack will be releasing alongside Version 1.4, and will be available in the game once Version 1.4 comes out! The game is all about collecting the broken gems while exploring open 2D Spaces that get larger and larger as the game goes on. It was described as practically being a completely different game hidden within The Journey, completely for free if you already own the game.

Bounce Up!

Bounce Up! was an original game announced to release on Gamejolt, itch.io and paperandgames.com completely for free. It’s a prequel to The Journey, and follows Bally as he attempts to escape the lab he was created in. The game is a short adventure, but it’s all about completing hard platforming challenges, and trying not to fall all the way back down to the bottom of the level!

The game will be available within the first 3 months of 2025.

Bally’s Journey

Bally’s Journey was also announced, an original short free comic series created by Fruit Comics and Pencilified Studios starring Bally in between Bounce Up! and The Journey. It will be releasing on all the classic comic platforms as well as paperandgames.com. Not much was said, but it sounds pretty awesome.

The Journey - Full Release

The Journey was announced to be releasing in May 2025! The full game, with all 8 worlds, releasing in May. It was also hinted that different skins and more mappacks would be added! How exciting?

2?

2? That’s all it said. 2. If you can work out what it means, please let us know. We’re just as confused as you.

That’s all the news at the Pencilified Studios Panel at Paper and Games Fest 2024! If you wanna watch it for yourself, feel free to right here on the newly launched Pencilified Studios YouTube Channel -> https://www.youtube.com/@PencilifiedStudios

The Big Bomb Guy is FINALLY Getting his Show.

The Big Bomb Guy is Back!

This is what we’ve been waiting for.

Back in 2017, we created a show on the Fruit Comics YouTube Channel called The Big Bomb Guy. It wasn’t great, we’ll admit that. We were still learning HOW to make animated shows. But ever since we made it, we tried to reinvent the character of The Big Bomb Guy.

He became a character that could break the fourth wall, he could never die, he became a whole new character, so we decided to build a show around it. We called it The Big Bomb Guy v2. We announced this show back in 2020 and began writing it. However, we had a few failures in 2020, so the show kept getting pushed, and the Fruit Comics Universe completely changed by the time we returned to the production of the show. Hell, the entire Universe was destroyed in 2021.

We eventually continued The Big Bomb Guy’s story in other projects and thought we’d finally figured out what the plot behind the show should be, and eventually called it Reboots. The show was all about how The Big Bomb Guy doesn’t want to be rebooted. But we kept having delay after delay, changed it again to a film called The Big Bomb Guy Reboots… but then some projects came out by other studios that had an extremely similar plot (Deadpool & Wolverine) so we decided to go back in and try again, and now we FINALLY have it.

The Big Bomb Guy is finally getting his own original show, and we’ve worked it out, and it’s releasing in June 2025.

Starring Charlie Lyons-Morgan as The Big Bomb Guy, The Big Bomb Guy is thrown into a brand new Universe (The Fruit Comics Ultimate Universe) and finds the grave of The Little Pencil. The Big Bomb Guy is determined to bring The Little Pencil back and keeps running into other heroes on the way. The Big Bomb Guy meets up with the Perimeter Patrol, The Elementals and so much more as he tries to bring The Little Pencil back to finally bring back his original Universe.

Make sure to watch The Big Bomb Guy Next June on the Fruit Comics YouTube Channel.

The Perimeter Patrol is Back!

The Long Forgotten Perimeter Patrol by Murphy Anderson is back!

Who ARE the Perimeter Patrol?

The Perimeter Patrol is a team of the World’s Best Heroes who set out to help all the planets on the outer fringe of the Solar System. Led by Captain Martin Hawkins, alongside Luther Mynot and more, the team sets their sails on saving the Universe.

Originally published by Ziff-Davis in Amazing Adventures #5 and created by Murphy Anderson, the Perimeter Patrol were left in the past to be swept up by the Public Domain until today.

Fruit Comics has republished the original Perimeter Patrol comic books to be available for purchase right now, alongside some bonus stories from across the Ziff-Davis Multiverse!

Who was Murphy Anderson?

Murphy C. Anderson Jr was born on July 9th, 1926 and grew up in North Carolina before moving to New York City to become an artist for a company known as Fiction House. Throughout the 1950s, Anderson began working at several other comic companies such as Ziff-Davis, Pines Comics, DC Comics and Atlas Comics, later known as Marvel Comics.

Over at DC, he worked on popular characters like Hawkman, Batgirl and Superman but it wasn’t until his work at Ziff-Davis that Anderson would create his characters, one of them being the Perimeter Patrol.

Throughout the 60s and 70s, Anderson would continue to work with DC on Superman alongside Jack Kirby, having to redraw Jimmy Olsen’s face several times as Kirby never seemed to get it right. Anderson also liked to hide his initials in every single piece of artwork he did across the multiple places he worked, so you always knew when you were looking at a Murphy Anderson original.

Throughout his life, he won many awards for his work in the comic industry, such as the Alley Award in 1962, 1963, 1964 and 1965 and also became a part of the Jack Kirby Hall of Fame in 1988.

Murphy was married to his wife Helen for 67 Years and had 3 kids until his death on October 22nd, 2015 at the age of 89 due to Heart Failure. Murphy will be remembered for his amazing work in the comics industry, and for being one of the greats in the comic world.

Company Goals

Hello again.

I know I haven’t been updating you for a while, but I thought I’d tell you about the company goals.

We’ve had a huge response to Full Story Productions’ Fishtail, which is quite insane, so I know we actually have attention on us, a small amount no doubt, but some attention is still good.

I want to expand, and I want to expand quickly.

Currently, if we look at Paper and Games, I (Charlie Lyons-Morgan, the CEO), control literally everything about the company. I control Paper and Games, Fruit Comics, Full Story Productions, Pencilified Studios and the rest of the company.

I don’t like that. I don’t like the fact that I’m controlling everything about everything. Of course, it’s good that I can be personally creative and control what the company puts out, but I know for a fact that I can’t do that forever. I touched on this a while ago, but the company doesn’t bring in a lot of money, which needs to change.

What I’m currently doing, even in my mind while typing this blog post, is working out a business plan in order to actually begin to pull in money to the company, so we can finally start having more than 1 full-time employee! (That would be insane).

However, I also know that we need to look at the past. We can’t just pretend the past never happened, it did. So, I want to be able to archive everything for our journey, and chronicle everything I possibly can, hence the Blog Post. These Blog Posts will never disappear, that’s the goal. Even if we transfer to a different website, these blog posts will follow with them.

So, Employees, we need you! But we also need enough money to PAY PEOPLE TO BEGIN WITH!

Thanks for reading, my fellow Paperees. Yeah, that’s what I’m calling you. Paperees. Does that mean anything? Not that I know of.

Yours in Paper,

Charlie Lyons-Morgan

Lots and LOTS of Work.

Hey again! I think I like just writing blog posts. Honestly thinking of bringing back the BYO Podcast just so can I talk about things because I have a lot to talk about.

Let’s begin with actual projects.

Fruit Comics. I just got my first OFFICIAL copy of The Little Pencil 2: The Erasers Return. I had a mock-up copy, but now I have a Not For Resale version! I actually have a Not For Resale version of both of my books, and I have a few things to change (the blurb), but it’s look a lot better than the first book.

Secondly, been working a little less on the Fruit Comics Universe. I actually now have a Writing Director, Ronin, who is currently in charge of the writing process for Fruit Comics and Paper and Games as a whole. As you may have seen on Twitter (RIP), I also have a writer for The Fieldham College, Madolvr. The Fieldham College is looking really good, I’m excited for you guys to see it.

I have ideas in the back of my head for ideas for Fruit Comics, along with a project that I just got pitched for a show that sounds like it could be interesting (no spoilers).

Full Story Productions. I released In The Loop. I released it quietly so I could begin working on Exiting The Loop, as I felt I couldn’t do anything more for In The Loop, so I added a song and left it at that. It’s almost the same as the version that’s on this website, but slightly different. The version on this website actually has an exclusive scene, so if you’re interested, check it out in the Exclusive Content section. I’ve also been pitched a show for Full Story Productions that I’m EXTREMELY excited for you guys to see. It’s a very big show for Paper and Games, and unlike something we’ve ever done before. So no, it’s not a comedy. I actually have a few other things that aren’t comedies at Full Story Productions, but they’re all early production.

I also announced a BTS series for Fruit Comics stuff. That should be fun, I already have a lot of BTS stuff from A Pencilly Halloween, so hopefully when we get to a full show it’ll be huge.

Finally, Pencilified Studios. I’m only gonna announce it here, but I’ve been hard at work to release The Journey on the Microsoft Store, so that should be coming soon.

Thanks for reading once again, and go buy some Paper and Games Merchandise!

Charlie.
